Painted by Leonardo da Vinci between approximately 1503 and 1519, the Mona Lisa is the world's most visited, most written about, and most parodied work of art. The 77cm x 53cm panel painting has resided in the Louvre since 1797, where it attracts 9 million viewers annually in its own dedicated room behind 6.7cm of bulletproof glass. In 2021 it was estimated to be insured for $870 million β the highest insurance value of any artwork ever assessed.
