Mona Lisa (da Vinci, c.1503)

Painted by Leonardo da Vinci between approximately 1503 and 1519, the Mona Lisa is the world's most visited, most written about, and most parodied work of art. The 77cm x 53cm panel painting has resided in the Louvre since 1797, where it attracts 9 million viewers annually in its own dedicated room behind 6.7cm of bulletproof glass. In 2021 it was estimated to be insured for $870 million — the highest insurance value of any artwork ever assessed.
