Renzo Piano's 310-metre Shard (2012) was inspired by the spires of London's historic churches and Victorian railway station roofs. Its eight glass facades angled at slightly different orientations reflect changing light and sky throughout the day. It contains offices, restaurants, a hotel, and a public viewing gallery at 244 metres β the highest publicly accessible point in Western Europe.
