Korean War (1950-1953)

The Korean War ("the Forgotten War") killed approximately 4 million people and ended in an armistice — not a peace treaty — that has left the Korean peninsula technically still at war. Its most consequential outcome: the cementing of US military alliances across Asia (South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Philippines), the division of Korea into the world's most successful economy and its most extreme totalitarian state, and China's intervention that confirmed it as a military power not to be ignored.
