98% pure silica sand visible from space. Hill Inlet's swirling tidal mosaic is unforgettable.
Stretching 7 kilometres along Whitsunday Island in Queensland's Great Barrier Reef Marine Park, Whitehaven Beach is composed of 98% pure silica sand β so fine and bright it doesn't absorb heat, and so white it can be seen from space. The swirling tidal flats of Hill Inlet at the northern end produce an ever-changing mosaic of white, turquoise, and aquamarine that redefines what a beach photograph can look like. Best visited between June and October when Queensland's dry season keeps skies clear and water calm.
