Doom: The Dark Ages

id Software's prequel to Doom (2016) and Doom Eternal sends the Doom Slayer into a medieval-inspired hellscape where he wields a spiked power shield, a mechanical flail, and the series' signature arsenal against demons riding dragons. Released on PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC in May 2025, The Dark Ages was the first Doom title to emphasise a grounded, stand-and-fight combat philosophy over the hyper-mobile arena style of its predecessors. The stunning visuals and the audacity of the premise — essentially Doom meets Game of Thrones — made it one of the most talked-about games of the year.
