One developer. Four years. The ultimate corporate escape fantasy.
One developer, Eric "ConcernedApe" Barone, spent four years building a farming sim that outsold most AAA studios. Stardew Valley is ostensibly about growing crops, but it's really about escaping corporate burnout — you literally quit your office job at Joja Corp to inherit a farm. The mobile port is remarkably complete, and the game's cozy loop of planting, fishing, mining, and befriending villagers is dangerously addictive.
