Konnan is the wrestler most responsible for bringing lucha libre culture into the mainstream U.S. wrestling market through his AAA work in Mexico and his WCW run in the late 1990s. He generated an estimated $50 million in cross-promotional revenue during the 1997–2000 period. His influence on cultural crossover is second only to #7 Rey Mysterio Jr., but Konnan's promotion work connecting Mexican and American markets made him the most commercially important luchador of the 1990s, faster than the average crossover effort of his peers.
