The Silver Masked Man is Mexico's most iconic popular culture figure β a wrestler who wore his silver mask in public for his entire 50-year career, including in 52 films where he fought vampires, aliens, and Nazis, and whose coffin was buried in his mask at his 1984 funeral. The Santo mask is the single most recognizable symbol in Mexican popular culture and his image appears on murals, merchandise, and devotional candles still sold across the country.
