Shinjuku Kappo Nakajima

Kappo Nakajima holds a Michelin star in a basement off Shinjuku-dori, and is known for applying kaiseki-level technique to iwashi — sardines, among the cheapest fish at market. Lunch is the famous part: a short menu of sardine sets served simmered, fried or as sashimi, at a fraction of what the evening kaiseki costs.
