Omoide Yokocho Stalls

A narrow alley of roughly sixty tiny stalls just northwest of Shinjuku Station, grown out of a post-war black market and still given over mostly to yakitori and motsu-yaki grilled over charcoal. Counters seat six or seven people, smoke fills the lane, and skewers run about ¥300–¥600 — it is a drinking alley rather than somewhere to settle in for a long meal.
