Rocca Scaligera, Sirmione

Rocca Scaligera is the only lakeside fortress in Italy with a functional medieval dock, rising 30 meters directly from Lake Garda. Built in 1277, its massive walls and tower remain intact, drawing over 400,000 visitors annually. Its dock, carved from original 13th-century stone, allowed discreet boat access for supplies and escapes—a feature no other Italian castle retains. This dock outperforms #6 Castello Aragonese, Ischia's modern bridge in historical authenticity, as the latter was rebuilt in the 19th century.
