The photorealistic remake earned $1.663 billion despite mixed critical reception (52% on Rotten Tomatoes). Proof that nostalgia and visual spectacle trump reviews. It's technically the highest-grossing "animated" film if you count the CG as animation — Disney does not. Source: Box Office Mojo.
