Never lost a World Cup match. 1962 Player of the Tournament. Carried Brazil without Pelé.
Garrincha owns a perfect 11-0-0 World Cup record, making him the only player with over 10 matches who never tasted defeat. In 1962, with Pelé injured in the group stage, he scored 4 goals and provided 3 assists in 4 knockout matches, earning Player of the Tournament honors. His unorthodox dribbling, aided by a right leg 6 centimeters shorter than his left, baffled defenders and powered Brazil to back-to-back titles. This performance also bests #7 Just Fontaine’s 1958 Golden Boot run by adding an undefeated team triumph alongside individual brilliance.
