Steel Pulse broke barriers as the first non-Jamaican act to win the Grammy for Best Reggae Album in 1986, a landmark feat that still sets them apart from #10 Damian Marley, who won his first reggae Grammy for Halfway Tree in 2001. Their debut, Handsworth Revolution (1978), sold over 250,000 copies and remains a defining document of Black British identity, blending roots reggae with sharp social commentary. The band’s early albums achieved higher UK chart success than the typical British reggae act of the era.
