Peter Tosh

Peter Tosh, as a Wailers co-founder and solo firebrand, delivered reggae's fiercest political edge. Legalise It (1976), banned by Jamaican radio for its marijuana advocacy, became an anthem of defiance despite the ban. Tosh's murder in 1987 at age 42 cut short a legacy of politically charged reggae built across several solo studio albums, including Equal Rights (1977) and Bush Doctor (1978). His 1978 performance at the One Love Peace Concert, where he scolded the country's politicians on stage in front of them, remains a legendary moment of prophetic audacity.
