Antonio Romero and Rafael Ruiz from Seville, Spain released Macarena in 1993 but it conquered the world in 1996 with the Bayside Boys remix, spending 14 consecutive weeks at number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 — the longest reign since 1956. The accompanying line dance was taught to an estimated 400 million people worldwide.
