Donovan Bailey's 9.84-second 100m world record at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, featuring a top speed of 27.1 mph (43.6 km/h), was the fastest 100m ever run at that time, 0.15 seconds faster than the 1992 Olympic winner. He anchored Canada to 4x100m relay gold in a world-record 37.69s, a mark that stood for four years. In 1997, he decisively beat Michael Johnson in a one-on-one 150m race, settling the 'world's fastest man' debate with a time of 14.94s, 0.44 seconds ahead of Johnson. His 100m record was later broken by #1 Usain Bolt, but his 27.1 mph top speed remains among the highest ever recorded, outpacing #2 Bolt's typical peak by 0.3 mph.
