Donovan Bailey

Donovan Bailey set a 100m world record of 9.84 seconds at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, at the time the fastest 100m ever run, and reached a top speed cited around 27 mph during the race. He also anchored Canada's 4x100m relay team to gold at the same Games. In 1997, he faced Michael Johnson in a widely hyped one-on-one 150m match race in Toronto, billed as settling the 'world's fastest man' debate -- Bailey won after Johnson pulled up with a leg injury partway through and failed to finish, with Bailey completing the race in just under 15 seconds.
