Most expensive building in history (1986). Reichstag, Gherkin, Millau Viaduct. Pritzker 1999.
The British architect pioneered "high-tech" architecture β celebrating structure, services, and materials as expressive elements rather than hiding them. His Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation headquarters (1986) was, at $668 million, the most expensive building ever built at the time. The Gherkin in London, the Millau Viaduct in France (the world's tallest bridge), and the renovation of the Reichstag in Berlin all demonstrate his range across scale and typology. He won the Pritzker Prize in 1999.
