Taco Bell Doritos Locos Tacos
1 billion sold in year one. $1B revenue. 15,000 hired. Two years to engineer the shell.
The Taco Bell Doritos Locos Tacos sold 1 billion units in its first year (2012), generating $1 billion in revenue. Taco Bell had to hire 15,000 new employees to meet demand, and the development took two years because Frito-Lay had to engineer a Doritos chip strong enough to hold taco fillings without breaking. The Cool Ranch version followed in 2013. It's the most successful co-brand in fast food history, proving that combining two junk food brands creates exponential, not additive, demand.
