Miguel Indurain dominated professional road cycling in the early 1990s with an unprecedented five consecutive Tour de France victories from 1991 to 1995, a record at the time. The powerful Navarrese climber also won the Giro d'Italia twice (1992, 1993) and set the world hour record in 1994. His physique - including a resting heart rate of 28 beats per minute and extraordinary VO2 max - made him a physiological phenomenon that redefined what was possible in cycling.
