MTR Family Ticketing — Children Under 3 Free, Child Fares

Children under 3 travel entirely free on the MTR with a fare-paying adult, with no ticket required. Children aged 3-11 pay a Child fare of approximately half the adult rate. For a family of 2 adults + 2 children making 4 weekly MTR trips, the monthly saving versus paying full adult fares is approximately HKD 600-800. Add an Octopus Monthly Pass (Adult: HKD 440 for most routes) for regular commuters. Apply for a Child Octopus card at any MTR Customer Service Centre with a copy of the child's HKID or birth certificate.
