Soldier of Orange (1977)

Paul Verhoeven's epic portrayal of Dutch resistance students sold over 1. 5 million tickets domestically, making it one of the top-grossing Dutch films of the 1970s. Its sprawling wartime canvas and moral dilemmas create a deeply personal saga that outperforms #2 in historical scope, covering six years of occupation. Nonetheless, its pacing drags slightly; at 155 minutes, it is a full 10 minutes longer than the average war epic.
