Oerol Festival transforms the Wadden Sea island of Terschelling into an open-air theatre for 10 days every June, hosting 55,000 visitors. It features 200+ performances by Dutch and international artists, with 70% of shows staged outdoors in dunes, forests, and mudflats. Unlike Sail Amsterdam’s focus on visual spectacle, Oerol prioritises intimate, environment-driven experiences—audiences walk between venues through UNESCO-listed tidal landscapes. Its 2026 programme includes 15 site-specific premieres, with sustainability targets cutting single-use plastics by 40%.
