As the original doppelbock first brewed by Paulaner monks in 1634 as liquid bread for Lenten fasting, Paulaner Salvator delivers a rich malty sweetness with notes of dark fruit and caramel at 7.9% ABV. This strong lager inspired every doppelbock ending in "-ator," yet it remains the benchmark—cheaper than most craft imitations by around 10% per liter. It outperforms #7 Erdinger Weissbier in body and depth, offering a more intense drinking experience.
