Puma's 2002 Cameroon kit — a sleeveless bodysuit design (one-piece shirt and shorts combination for the Africa Cup of Nations, then a separate sleeveless version for subsequent tournaments) — was banned by FIFA on the grounds that it did not constitute a "shirt." The ruling generated global press coverage and Puma more publicity than any other kit design of the decade. It remains the most deliberately provocative kit design in football history — a fashion statement that forced football's governing body to redefine what a "kit" was.
