Green Tea
Green tea is a notable anti-inflammatory beverage, largely attributed to its high concentration of epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG). EGCG is a potent natural inhibitor of NF-kB, a protein complex that controls DNA transcription and is involved in inflammatory responses, thus contributing to a reduction in cardiovascular risk. Large-scale Japanese cohort studies, including one initiated in 1994 with 40,530 adults aged 40 to 79, observed that individuals who consumed five or more cups of green tea daily had a 26% lower risk of cardiovascular mortality over a seven-year follow-up period. This sustained anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and endothelial-protective activity underscores green tea's significant health benefits.
