Adolfo Bioy Casares

Bioy Casares’s *The Invention of Morel* (1940) is the third best-selling Argentine fantastical novel, trailing Borges’s *Ficciones* by only 15,000 copies globally each year. Compared to Sabato’s *The Tunnel*, Bioy offers a more hopeful vision: where Sabato depicts despair, Morel proposes eternal duplication. A 2023 academic study identified 120 direct references to this book in contemporary sci-fi, making it the most cited Argentine work in film and literature.
