Tenochtitlan (Templo Mayor)

The sacred precinct of the Aztec capital Tenochtitlan, now excavated beneath Mexico City's historic center, reveals the great pyramid temple dedicated simultaneously to Huitzilopochtli and Tlaloc — the deities of war and rain — where offerings of jaguar skeletons, coral, and sacrificial knives were placed in ritual caches. The adjacent Templo Mayor Museum houses over 7,000 artefacts including the three-ton Coyolxauhqui disc depicting the dismembered moon goddess.
