Milano Cortina's Opening Ceremony Lights Two Cauldrons in One Night

For the first time in Olympic history, the opening ceremony unfolded across four host-country locations at once -- anchored by a three-hour show at Milan's San Siro, with simultaneous events in Cortina d'Ampezzo, Livigno, and Predazzo. Two Olympic cauldrons were lit that night: Alpine skiing legends Deborah Compagnoni and Alberto Tomba lit Milan's flame at the Arco della Pace, while Sofia Goggia lit Cortina's at Piazza Angelo Dibona. Themed 'Armonia,' the ceremony wove Italian culture -- Verdi, Puccini, Canova -- together with performances from Mariah Carey and Andrea Bocelli.
