Lindsey Vonn Competes Again -- and Crashes in the Downhill

Seven years after her first retirement, Lindsey Vonn came out of retirement to race in the women's downhill on February 8, 2026. She crashed during the run and was medevac'd by helicopter, suffering a ruptured ACL along with a complex tibia fracture and a fracture of the fibular head and tibial plateau, and underwent surgery on her left leg. It turned an emotional comeback story into a stark reminder of the risks elite skiers take returning to the sport in their forties.
