The newer entrants pushing into the top 10 (Turkey, Thailand) tend to compete on a different axis entirely: value. A trip that would cost significantly more in Western Europe often costs meaningfully less on the Turkish or Thai coast for a comparable standard of accommodation and food, and that price gap is doing real work in the rankings even though it's rarely the headline reason people give for choosing a destination.
